You probably know at least one sports superfan. The type of person who is so invested in the game that the enjoyment of their evening hinges on the team’s performance.

If the team wins, they have a great night. If the team loses, they’re miserable.

This is how we are about the financial challenges we face.

We are so invested in our own situations and their outcomes, the stress of it can rule our lives.

We blame ourselves for being in the situation and believe that means we are the ones who have to get ourselves out.

Being committed to resolving the challenge is a good way to go, but isolating ourselves from support isn’t.

We are the last people who should be trying to solve our problems because we are too emotionally attached to see all the potential solutions.

What we need is a referee.

Referees care more about a clean and fair game than they do about which team wins.

We need the same type of neutral and objective party to help us – someone who isn’t invested in our situation or emotionally attached to the outcome.

That person will be able to see possibilities that we can’t.

But those people won’t offer help or know that you need it, if you don’t speak up.

We all struggle. None of us are alone. And we all need support in order to make the money and the impact we desire.

Here’s the 3-2-1 on asking (or not asking) for support.

3 TRUTHS

  1. Even though our individual situations are unique, the money stories driving them aren’t. We are not alone in what we struggle with, but we can’t resolve those challenges by staying silent.
  2. We are too invested in our own situations and their outcomes to see clearly all the potential options available to us that can resolve the problem we face
  3. If we get stuck in the idea that no one can help us, then what we assume will happen will. We call this a self-fulfilling prophecy.
