I don’t want us to head into this new year feeling like a hamster on a wheel, creating momentum but not going anywhere.

Being that hamster on the wheel can look differently for each of us.

It may look like taking action but not feeling like we’re getting anywhere.

Or, like we are making money but continue to feel broke.

Or, showing up to the job, but just going through the motions.

Anytime we feel like the proverbial hamster, this is always a sign it’s time to disrupt something.

The only way to get different results is to do something differently.

Now, I want to be clear – I don’t believe all of the actions you’ve taken are ineffective.

What we’ve done up until today has gotten us as far as we are.

So the disruption I’m suggesting might be more about changing your customer avatar, or the way you network, or how you manage your schedule.

Some coaches will say, “Just get off the wheel altogether.”

I hate that advice because when we completely stop what we’ve been doing, we lose our momentum and momentum is a lot harder to get back once we’ve stopped altogether.

Plus, money likes momentum.

My approach is to either slow down, change the scenery, or turn that wheel into a ball – metaphorically speaking, of course.

The point is to shift something. Just one thing will do it.

I’m not suggesting we overturn everything we’ve created and everything we are comfortable with.

We don’t want to burn everything down or toss everything away.

We just need to find one thing we can change and that one disruption will steer us into a different course with a different outcome.

Making one subtle shift today, and maybe tomorrow, and the next day will push our momentum into a new direction with different results.

If we want this year to be different, we have to be different.

Here’s the 3-2-1 on disrupting the status quo to get different results.

3 TRUTHS

  1. Sometimes it’s not that our actions are ineffective, but that our environment or perspective needs to change.
  2. If we can create change in our patterns, perspectives, and actions, we can create change in the way we interact with money, too.
  3. We don’t need to incite mass chaos or change everything; we just need to find one thing to disrupt and it’ll put us on a different course, which will result in a different outcome.

2 ACTIONS

  1. Evaluate your business. Are you going about it in the same way you approached it last year and is that working for you?
  2. If not, identify where you can make small adjustments. (Maybe you can expand your goals, change your schedule, or tweak a process.)

1 QUESTION

  1. What’s one thing I can do today to disrupt my status quo?
